One of the most beautiful villages in France
In the beginning, there was the island Ars-St Clément. This tiny bit of an island sttod among others, Les Portes, Ré, and loix that nature decided to unite into one larger single island: Ré.
Holiday resort for quiet and nature lovers, and built around its church, the village has retained its old houses with white walls, its sunny and flowered narrow streets, and wa discover, along a leisurely stroll, some mansion, witness of its past wealth.
Since that time, Ars remained open towards the sea, as witnessed by the black and white belltower that once served as as a landmark to boats sailing in the bay, the Fier.
The church itself, is a perfect mix between roman art of 12th century and gothic style of 15th century.
Pedestrian walks will take you between sea and salt marshes, and among the three old windmills well conserved.
Numerous cycling paths departing from the harbor invite you to discover the fascinating world of salt marshes, where sea and sky merge into a golden heaven for a large variety of migrating birds species.
And now, sailors too will find their place in the new marina, which, with 550 moorings, is the largest on the island.
