The village of St Clément des Baleines which is composed of six hamlets stands on the western end of the Ile de Ré.

Overhung by the lighthouse, the village runs from La Cote Sauvage to the sandy beach of La Conche , on the edge of the forest.

The salt marshes near the nature reserve join the forest and the village together.
