La Rochelle is located just in the middle of the French Atlantic coast, halfway between Nantesand Bordeaux. The island is connected to La Rochelle by a 3 km-long toll bridge constructedin 1988.
The bridge is open 24 hours a day7 days a week.An eco-tax will be introduced on 1 January2012. Frequent travelling cards can bebought in the building situated before thetoll.
The office is open daily from 5.30am to9.30pm.

For cars / motor caravans: Winter season (12/09 to 19/06 included): €8 - Summer season (20/06 to 11/09 included): €16
For pedestrians and bicycles: There is no toll for pedestrians and cyclists. Paths for pedestrians and cyclists are dedicated,safe and separate ways.

Regular daily train services operate fromNantes, Bordeaux and Paris-Montparnasse(TGV Atlantique). The journey time from Paristo La Rochelle is under 3 hours.

Buses of line n° 3 are:
At la Rochelle : SNCF railway station - RTCR coach station (Place de Verdun) - Airport (July-August) - ‘Belvédère’ (car-park situated just before thetoll of the bridge)
During the summer season, “Ré Express” buses run from the railway station and stop onrequest. The journey time is shorter.
Advance booking is not necessary. Tickets can be bought directly from the busdriver, at any agency of Les Mouettes network,any point of sale of Les Mouettes network, orat SNCF railway station.
Bus passes are availablefor one day, one week, one monthor one year.

The «RTCR» bus compagny (summer season)
RTCR runs a bus service from La Rochelle. Entry to Île de Ré (June, July, August). And, in July and August, a specially equipped “bike bus” transporting your bike runs from Place de Verdun at Sablanceaux-Plage.
